Internships

  • Greene County Archives

    • Not available for the Academic Year 2008-2009
    • 20 hrs/week; hours flexible
    • Pay rate above minimum wage
    • To qualify you must be a graduate or undergraduate history major with a GPA of at least 3.0 in history courses taken at Missouri State, and you must be enrolled at Missouri State during the semester of the internship. For details contact Dr. Thornton Miller.

    • In addition, undergraduate or graduate credit for this internship is available through HST 599. Credit for internships is not automatic; you must obtain a permission form in the department office and enroll in HST 599.

  • The history department sponsors unpaid internships through the Springfield History Museum. Other internships can be arranged with appropriate partners. For more information, call the department office at 836-5511.

  • Missouri State Archives often have internships available. Check their web page regularly. Credit through HST 599 is a possibility.

  • Missouri Historical Society has paid summer internships available and unpaid academic internships as well.

  • Missouri Department of Natural Resources often has summer jobs which could be developed into internships. Contact George A. Kastler for more information.

  • Student Conservation Association

    • The Student Conservation Association offers internships at historic sites, national parks, archives, museums, etc. to students and to those who have graduated. The internships run from 12 weeks to 12 months.

    • Credit for HST 599 (Internship in Public History) is a possibility. For more information see their website and/or Prof. Piston or Prof. W. R. Miller. At the website, click on “search” then “Use Search Wizard’ then “Discipline” to find the History internships.
