Summary: AHEEP is a partnership among the Republic, Marshfield, Ozark,
Nixa, and Springfield school districts with the History Department of
SMSU to enhance the training of selected social studies teachers in
American history. The project is funded by a grant of $983,000 for three
years from the US Department of Education.
The
partnership seeks to
improve student performance in American history
by immersing social studies teachers in a
three-year program designed to teach the content
of American history and those habits of mind
that are associated with historical research. The
American History Education Enhancement project
offers middle and high school teachers the means
to earn a M.A. degree that strengthens their
knowledge and appreciation for American history.
The funded
proposal calls for classes to begin in the
Spring of 2005 and continue through the Summer
of 2007. The grant pays for teachers' tuition,
fees, and books. The grant also provide teachers
with laptops and home broadband connections to
facilitate online coursework. |
