Mission

Summary: AHEEP is a partnership among the Republic, Marshfield, Ozark, Nixa, and Springfield school districts with the History Department of SMSU to enhance the training of selected social studies teachers in American history. The project is funded by a grant of $983,000 for three years from the US Department of Education.

The partnership seeks to improve student performance in American history by immersing social studies teachers in a three-year program designed to teach the content of American history and those habits of mind that are associated with historical research. The American History Education Enhancement project offers middle and high school teachers the means to earn a M.A. degree that strengthens their knowledge and appreciation for American history.

The funded proposal calls for classes to begin in the Spring of 2005 and continue through the Summer of 2007. The grant pays for teachers' tuition, fees, and books. The grant also provide teachers with laptops and home broadband connections to facilitate online coursework.
