Membership Requirements

Application for Theta Mu Chapter
 

To be initiated during Fall, 2007, you must fill out the above application and deliver it along with the Initiation and Annual Membership Fees ($45) to Kelli Stanton in Strong Hall 420 no later than November 5, 2007.


Undergraduate Students
 

  1. Complete at least 12 semester hours in History
    with a GPA of at least 3.1 in History.
  2. Have a GPA of 3.0 or better overall
  3. Be in the top 35% of your class.

Graduate Students

  1. Complete a minimum of 12 semester hours towards a Master's Degree.
  2. Have a GPA of better than 3.5.
  3. Have completed 30% of the residence requirements
    for the Master's Degree.

Initiation Fee and Annual Membership Fees
Phi Alpha Theta confers lifetime membership upon qualified individuals upon initiation and payment of a one-time initiation fee of $40. This fee includes a subscription to Phi Alpha Theta's quarterly journal, The Historian. Local dues for the Theta Mu chapter are $5.00 per year.

Employment Benefits
Membership in a national honor society generally confers benefits in primary and secondary school hiring. Membership in Phi Alpha Theta is recognized by the U.S. Civil Service Commission as a credit qualifying the member for grade GS-7 rather than GS-5.
